Abstract

Returning from a visit to Norway I met a 75 year old woman who, as we were boarding the ‘plane home, told me that she had been to see the Northern Lights. This was one thing she needed to do before she died.  Although she could not afford it, her next aim was to visit the Southern Lights which are also mesmerizing, dynamic displays of light that appear in the Antarctic skies in winter.  She would save up for that. This encounter made me realize this was a good time to examine Steve Nolan’s ‘Spiritual care at the end of life: the chaplain as a hopeful presence’.
